How to install the Oracle Fusion Middleware Infrastructure

An installation of the Oracle Fusion Middleware Infrastructure was required before instaling the Oracle Analytics Server, so I performed the installation in the Oracle Linux 8.5 VirtualBox VM. I have documented all the steps in this tutorial in case you need to do something similar.

The Oracle 19c database was already installed in the Oracle Linux 8.5 VirtualBox VM and I had just installed the JDK version 1.8.0_321 RPM package. So I downloaded the fmw_12.2.1.4.0_infrastructure.jar file from Oracle website. I copied it in the VM shared folder and I started the installation with the “java -jar fmw_12.2.1.4.0_infrastructure.jar” command:

After a few seconds extracting the installer and doing some checks, the Oracle Fusion Middleware Infrastructure installer window appeared with a Welcome message (Step 1):

I clicked the “Next” button and the next step (Step 2) asked if I wanted to configure the Auto Updates, I selected “Skip Auto Updates” and I clicked the “Next” button.

Step 3 allowed to change the “Installation Location“, I kept the default Oracle Home and I clicked the “Next” button.

Step 4 asked for the “Installation Type“, I selected “Fusion Middleware Infrastructure” and I clicked the “Next” button.

Step 5 did the prerequisite checks, it verified if the system was certified and if the java version used to launch the installer was supported. Everything was fine so I clicked the “Next” button to navigate to the next installer screen.

Step 6 was an installation summary and it allowed to save the options in a response file. I clicked the “Install” button to start the installation.

Step 7 did the installation and it took just two minutes.

I clicked the “Next” button once the installation had finished.

Step 8 confirmed that the installation had been successful so I clicked the “Finish” button.

The installer window closed and the Terminal displayed that the log files created during the installation had been copied in the “/opt/oracle/oraInventory/logs” directory.

The Oracle Fusion Middleware Infrastructure was now successfully installed and I could go on with the next of the installation of the Oracle Analytics Server.
